All,
Yesterday we had an incredible conversation on Clubhouse about the ways in which men can be better allies in the fight for gender equality. My co-host Julia Sherbakov were joined by two incredible gender equality experts, Chi Nguyen and Jake Stika. Together, along with some incredible contributors from the audience, we dove into a discussion covering the need to engage with men and boys to create a healthier and more inclusive definition of manhood and the myriad of issues we need to navigate if we’re ever going to reach true gender equality. You can view some of the observations and takeaways I had from that conversation here.
Also, later today (Thursday Mar 3rd) I will be joining Rehana Nathoo’s Impact Investing 101 Series for Episode #3: Impact Investing Strategies for Individual Investors. Join us on 👋Clubhouse from 12pm to 1pm ET. I have extra invites if you want to join but do not yet have access to the app.

🎉Raven Indigenous Capital Partners completes historic $25M raise
Congratulations goes to the entire team at Raven Indigenous Capital Partners for closing its $25 million venture fund. As far as I’m aware this may be the world’s first Indigenous run fund investing Indigenous entrepreneurs. As reported by BetaKit, the fund raised the sum from 38 investors across North American including the new Telus Pollinator Fund. You can check out Episode #13 of the podcast where I interview Jeff Cyr about the organization and their approach.
🌱 Plant-based food industry scores massive wins!
Plant-based milk company Oatly quietly files for IPO: Oatly has taken the dairy industry by storm by popularizing oat-based milk. The Swedish company’s innovation and bold marketing have propelled oat-based milk past Soy Milk as the 2nd most popular plant-based milk. It is now second only to Almond Milk which has been around much longer. There are rumblings that the Oatly IPO could fetch up to USD $10 billion. While these estimates may be generous, anything close to that figure would be sensational considering that only a couple of years ago Beyond Meat shocked the world with its $1.5B IPO.
Beyond Meat signs partnerships with McDonald’s and Yum! Brands: This is huge news. McDonald’s is the 800 lb gorilla in the fast-food industry while Yum! brands owns KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell. Beyond Meat will become McDonald’s preferred supplier of meat for its McPlant burger that is currently being tested in select markets. They will also explore other plant-based alternatives for various chicken, pork, and egg menu items as part of McDonald’s larger McPlant menu. This goes a long way to normalizing plant-based meats and exposing a much larger audience of flexitarians to viable non-meat alternatives.
