Episode 28 is live!
Episode 28 is live! I first met Riddl’s CTO Derek Hatchard at SoCap in 2019 where we talked a little about what they were building. I loved the name the moment I heard it because cracking impact measurement and management is tough. And it felt pretty cool to be able to have Riddl’s CEO, Jenelle Sobey on to share the solution they had come up with after all their hard work!
Storytelling Advertising
I’m also excited about this podcast because it includes my first advertisement! I know that probably doesn’t sound exciting to you. But I’m hoping you’ll enjoy the ad. Here’s why.
The Impact Investing Podcast has been a labour of love now for the past 3 years. I've sunk a little money and countless hours planning, recording, producing, and marketing it.
I would love to make a lot more episodes, but I hate producing them. So recently I hired a little help. And like any respectable impact investor, I have been thinking about how to make this endeavour financially sustainable. Otherwise, it won’t last. My pockets aren’t that deep.
But I have wanted to do it in a way that feels authentic to the spirit of the podcast, this community, and my personal values.
I love the idea of partnering with impact-driven organizations on impact investing-related issues.
So when Libi Berenson of the social enterprise Geenees approached me about their crowdfunding campaign, this felt like a perfect opportunity. Here's what Libi and I put together to share her story and help them raise the capital they need.

An Open letter to Larry Fink: How Your CEO Letter Misses the Point by Andy Behar, CEO of As You Sow.
Here’s a fascinating takeaway from the article:
“The carbon capture potential of whales is truly startling. Whales accumulate carbon in their bodies during their long lives. When they die, they sink to the bottom of the ocean; each great whale sequesters 33 tons of CO2 on average, taking that carbon out of the atmosphere for centuries. A tree, meanwhile, absorbs only up to 48 pounds of CO2 a year.”
If you do the math, this means that whales are worth about $2 million each in terms of their carbon value along, putting the global value of whales at over $1 trillion. And if we were to allow whales to repopulate from 1.3 million to their previous levels of 5 million, it would be the equivalent from a carbon perspective of having an additional 1.7 trillion fully mature trees on the planet.
