All,
I’m both excited and nervous to share that I’ve started a writing journey called Ship30for30. The program tasks us Shippers with writing and "shipping" one short essay per day for 30 days. I’ll be writing on impact investing.
I have big goals for 2021: to write a book on impact investing, establish a paid public speaking career, and continuing building this community with all of you through the podcast, this newsletter, and creating other resources to help everyone get smarter about impact investing.
Writing every day can help me do all of those things. I’ll be posting them all on Twitter because it allows for a feedback loop. Your likes, retweets, and comments will help me better understand what does and doesn’t resonate. I hope you’ll follow along.
Also, I’m hosting two talks this week on 👋Clubhouse. These are great opportunities for you to join the conversation if these topics interest you.
1. Impact investing in Indigenous communities
Date: Tuesday February 16 at 12pm ET / 9am PT / 6pm CET
Join co-hosts Julia Sherbakov (Host of Impact Journey Podcast) and David O’Leary (Host of The Impact Investing Podcast and Founder of Kind Wealth) for a discussion with Sara Wolfe and Jacquline Jennings/Jeffrey Cyr (speaker to be confirmed) about how we can unlock the vast untapped potential within our Indigenous communities through impact investing.Â
Sara Wolfe is the Director of Indigenous Innovation Initiatives at Grand Challenges Canada. Her work is focused on providing both financial and non-financial support to drive innovation and social impact that is led by and/or created by Indigenous peoples.
Jacqueline Jennings is the Director Fireweed Fellowship at Raven Indigenous Capital Partners. Raven makes transformative investments in Canada’s Indigenous entrepreneurs and communities.Â
Clubhouse is by invitation only still and is only available on iPhone or iPad. Any subscribers who want to join the conversation but need an invite, email me and I’ll see what I can do to find you an invite.
2. The causes of wealth inequality that no one is talking about
Date: Tuesday February 17 at 8pm ET / 5pm PT
Wealth inequality is one of the most pressing risks and injustices of our time. Join us as we chat with Jon Shell (Social Capital Partners) and Delilah Rothenburg (The Predistribution Initiative) as we discuss the more insidious ways wealth inequality happens that we aren't talking enough about.Â
Jon Shell is Managing Director & Partner at Social Capital Partners, a non-profit organization dedicated to scaling market-based solutions that address wealth inequality. Jon is a former McKinsey consultant and social entrepreneur. Listen to episode 25 of the podcast for my discussion with Jon.
Delilah Rothenburg is Founder and Executive Director of The Predistribution Initiative, a multi-stakeholder effort to improve investment structures that share more wealth and influence with workers and communities, provide stronger incentives to invest responsibly, and ultimately address systemic risks including income inequality and climate change. Delilah has worked as a strategic advisor across ESG integration, impact strategy, and stakeholder engagement. Delilah will be joining me as my guest on the upcoming 27th episode of the podcast.
